The Physicians at Natividad Medical Center Make Donation To The Food Bank For Monterey County and Dorothy’s Place

SALINAS, CA – May 20, 2015 – The physicians at Natividad Medical Center announced today they will a $9000 donation from the Medical Staff funds to The Food Bank For Monterey County and Dorothy’s Place.

“We are pleased to make donations to both The Food Bank for Monterey County and to Dorothy’s Place,” said Dr. Tunzi who has served as the Program Director of Family Medicine Residency Program at Natividad Medical Center and is currently the Assistant Program Director.  “These community agencies serve the needy in our community just like we do and we want to show our solidarity for the outstanding work they do. We know very well that our patients use the services that Dorothy’s and the Food Bank provide, and we are grateful for all that they do. Also, Natividad Family Medicine resident physicians and our visiting  medical students go to Dorothy’s regularly and see the great things that happen there; we want them to know that this kind of community giving is something physicians must support.”

Costa is a World Famous Fitness Expert/Former Body Builder Who Had Three Strokes in Three Weeks

SALINAS, CA – May 11, 2015 – In honor of May being National Stroke Month, the Sam Karas Acute Rehabilitation Center Stroke Support Group will host a guest speaker at their monthly support group meeting.  The Sam Karas Acute Rehabilitation Center is designed to assist patients and their families with the transition from an acute hospital setting to home. Patients receive daily physician visits to ensure medical stability and optimal functional recovery. The Center helps patients reach a high level of functional independence to return home safely and with confidence.

Natividad Medical Center Recognized for Quality Bariatric Surgery

SALINAS, CA  (April 2015) – Anthem Blue Cross has recognized Natividad Medical Center with a Blue Distinction® Center designation in the area of bariatric surgery as part of the Blue Distinction® Centers for Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated healthcare facilities shown to deliver quality specialty care, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community, for patient safety and better health outcomes.

To receive a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery designation, a healthcare facility must demonstrate success in meeting patient safety as well as bariatric-specific quality measures, including complications and readmissions, for gastric stapling and/or gastric banding procedures. A healthcare facility must also have earned national accreditations at both the facility level and the bariatric care-specific level.

Natividad Medical Center Receives Designation as Monterey County’s Level II Trauma Center

SALINAS, CA, January 5, 2015 - Natividad Medical Center announced it has received designation as Monterey County’s Level II Trauma Center by the Monterey County Emergency Medical Services Agency. “The designation of the Trauma Center at Natividad Medical Center will benefit trauma patients and their family members and improve the overall quality of health care in our community,” said Kelly O’Keefe, MD, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Natividad Medical Center. “As an acute care hospital, for the past 128 years, we have made an organizational commitment to the people of our community to provide safe, effective, accessible, and quality health care. We continue this commitment with this designation as a Level II Trauma Center providing a vital community service locally that saves lives and eliminates the need to fly critically injured patients to a distant trauma center.”

Natividad Medical Center Named 1 of 33 High Performing Hospitals In Maternity Care in California

SALINAS, CA (December 2014) – Natividad Medical Center has been named 1 of 33 high performing hospitals in maternity care in California by The California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF). CHCF recently released the findings of reports measuring hospital performance in four key areas of maternity care: low-risk C-section rates, episiotomy rates, rates of exclusive breastfeeding before discharge, and VBAC (vaginal birth after C-section) rates.

"The goal has always been to provide our community with world class perinatal care,” said Dr. Peter Chandler, Medical Director of Natividad’s Obstetrics/Gynecology Department. “We are honored to be recognized for our outcomes along with our partners Stanford and UCSF."

The Diabetes Education Center (DEC) at Natividad Medical Center will celebrate American Diabetes Month November 14th

SALINAS, CA (October 2014) -- The Diabetes Education Center (DEC) at Natividad Medical Center will celebrate American Diabetes Month November 14th, themed this year as “America Gets Cooking to Stop Diabetes”. The event coincides with World Diabetes Day, which this year marks the first of a 3-year focus on healthy living and diabetes, with its theme "Diabetes: Protect Our Future”.

Save the Date of November 14th:
There will be an information booth inside of the main lobby of building 200-Out Patient Services where anyone can come and pick up diabetes information.

NOTE: There will be no diabetes testing on this date

Diabetes education is a collaborative process through which people with or at risk for diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions. Services are provided by diabetes educators.
