Affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco, Natividad is a stand alone program in a public hospital setting located 2 hours south of San Francisco and a short distance inland from Monterey Bay, in the Salinas valley. We have a total of 26 residents who have primary clinical responsibility for all of their patients. Our dedicated faculty takes pride in their supervision of patient care and in their teaching.
We are proud of our mission “to educate residents in the principles and practice of Family Medicine and prepare them to provide continuous, comprehensive, and culturally-sensitive, contextual care to underserved and rural populations.” While we have graduates in many different types of practices and many different places, we are also fortunate that many of our graduates have remained on the Central Coast, caring for the underserved here in our own area.
The Residency continues to be a strong, integral part of our community. Our dedication to outstanding patient care and broad-based Family Medicine education is appreciated and admired by all. While our special strengths are general inpatient care and maternal-child medicine – our residents participate in deliveries and our pediatric experience is extensive - our clinical experiences in ambulatory chronic disease management and community medicine are also outstanding. We truly believe in developing our residents’ “clinical common sense” and provide well-rounded training to prepare them to work anywhere in the U.S. – or the world!
Many of our residents have taken a “first-look” at what we have to offer by participating in a student clerkship. This option offers an excellent opportunity not only to get acquainted with our hospital “from the inside” - but also our community, our area and the people we serve.
If you are challenged by hard work, gratified by caring for a warm and grateful patient population, and open to living in one of the most beautiful areas anywhere, we invite you to look around and learn more about what we offer here at Natividad.
