Each city has its own special qualities -- and activities to enjoy! Here’s a

Salinas is a Central Coast town
located just Northeast of the beautiful Monterey Bay. It is the major
financial, governmental and agricultural center of Monterey County, but
still has the feel of a rural community. Its nickname is “The Salad Bowl
of the World.” Salinas is also the birthplace of the famous author John
Steinbeck.

Monterey has
a temperate climate, world-class golf courses, and numerous art and
music festivals which provide a relaxing way to spend your free
week-ends! Extensive coastal trails are ideal for biking and
rollerblading -- or just stroll along the waterfront, enjoying the sea
lions romp and watching for whales. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is an
added “gem.” |
| Santa Cruz is about 45 minutes
Northwest of Salinas. The eclectic city of Santa Cruz is famous for its
Beach Boardwalk and “Banana Slug” UC mascot. Residents who like surfing,
hiking and a “laid-back” atmosphere are especially drawn to this town. |

Carmel by the Sea is like a
European village in the middle of California and offers unique shops and
fine dining. For a more relaxed afternoon, grab a cup of coffee and
stroll down the white sand beach.

Coastal Highway (HWY 1) Is one of
the most scenic drives in California. The Big Sur Coast Highway hugs the
Pacific coast, from Carmel-by-the-Sea and winds south to Los Padres
National Forest. Residents have great opportunities for hiking and
camping in several State parks along the way. The historic Hearst Castle
is along this drive, and is a great place to visit!
