Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The Intensive Care Unit provides care for critically ill adult and
pediatric patients who require careful observation and specialized therapy
and equipment. The ICU/CCU is staffed with qualified Registered Nurses and
a dedicated, Board Certified Physician in Internal Medicine. The ICU has
specialized monitoring and therapeutic equipment not found in other areas of
the hospital.
Maternity Services
The Maternal Infant Unit is a 26 bed unit that promotes family-centered
care and provides a full range of care to childbearing women, the normal
newborn, and their families. Fathers and significant others are included in
our family-centered care. Infants receive hearing screenings Education and
support services, including infant CPR classes, breastfeeding classes,
lactation support and information on women’s topics are offered. Please

Medical Surgical Unit
Our highly skilled nurses and physicians provide inpatient care in the
Medical Surgical Department , located on the third floor of the inpatient
building. It consists of 35 beds for medical, pre-operative and post-
surgical patients, inpatient, dialysis, telemetry and forensic patients. Our
staff is well-trained and provides quality, compassionate care.
Mental Health Unit
The Mental Health Unit is a 22-bed, state licensed, locked, adult acute
psychiatric facility. Inpatient services provide acute mental health in a
safe, structured, pleasant and secure environment. Twenty-four hour care
includes psychiatric, medical and diagnostic evaluations. Additional
services include skilled interventions by licensed and experienced staff,
patient education and medication management, group therapy, daily
psychiatric sessions and family education and support as well as
comprehensive discharge planning and referral services.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Level 111
Certified by the California Children's Services, it is devoted to the
newborn infant requiring specialized care. It provides stabilization of the
initially ill newborn,& intermediate intensive care and continuing care for
growing newborns. A Neonatologist/Pediatrician, highly trained physicians in
the care of ill newborns oversee the NICU offering families the security of
knowing their infant receives the highest level of newborn care.
Pediatric Unit
The Pediatric Unit is located on the third floor of the inpatient
building, and is licensed for 12 beds. The unit provides a full range of acute
nursing care for all children, newborn through thirteen years of age, with a
variety of medical and surgical problems. Adolescent patients, between the
ages of 13 and 21, may also be admitted to the Pediatric Unit. . Cheerful,
bright playrooms offer patients a healing environment. A kitchenette area
allows parents to prepare favorite foods for their child.
Sam Karas Acute Rehabilitation Center
The only Acute Rehabilitation Center in Monterey County, which opened in
2003, is designed to assist patients and their families with the transition
from an acute hospital setting to home. This 20 - bed unit has a dedicated medical director and
an individualized therapy program tailored to each patient’s needs. One on
one & group therapy sessions help patients reach a high level of functional
