For Patients - Inpatient Departments - Maternity Services Special Beginnings,
the entire second floor of the inpatient area of the medical center, is
devoted to the care of women and newborns. It includes eight private,
beautifully appointed labor delivery and recovery units. Each delivery is
attended by a doctor, labor nurse, and neonatal intensive care nurse.Childbirth is a family experience. Perinatal Services at Natividad Medical Center reflect the philosophy and collaboration with families to support the continuum of care and provide a full range of perinatal, childbirth, and neonatal services. Family centered care is provided in a warm and comfortable environment. Birthing rooms are large technologically advanced spaces with room for family members. Cesarean Births are performed in the Labor and Delivery Suite. Mothers can hold and touch their newborns right after birth. When the mother is in the Labor and Delivery PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) she is able to hold and breastfeed her newborn. One family member may stay with her during her recovery time in the PACU. In the event the newborn needs extra care, the newborn nursery is readily available to support the needs of the newborn, mother, and their family members. After birth the newborn stays with his/her mother and family throughout the entire stay. During the stay mothers and family members are provided with education on the care and feeding of her newborn. Natividad Medical Center provides car seats at a reduced cost for families in need. Breastfeeding support is available by the nursing staff, lactation consultants, and WIC’s Mother to Mother support services. Birthing Classes:
