SALINAS, CA–Natividad Medical Center offers a Certified Farmers’ Market every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The Farmers’ Market is located at 1441 Constitution Blvd., outside of building 200-Out Patient Services and is part of Natividad Medical Center’s ongoing commitment to promote wellness and healthy eating among Natividad Medical Center’s staff, patients and their families.

At Natividad Medical Center’s Certified Farmers’ Market run by Everyone’s Harvest, shoppers will find fresh quality fruits and vegetables (many certified organic), beautiful flowers, live plants, and unique gifts from small-scale family farmers and local independent businesses. By shopping at Natividad Medical Center’s California Certified Farmers’ Market you are supporting local California growers.

Join us for on Wednesday, August 27th for a live cooking demo at 12:00 p.m.  All attendees can enjoy a sample of the featured recipe and a take home recipe card.

Nectarine and Black Beans Salad
Serves: 12 portions, 1/2 cup per portion   Preparation time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:
· 2 15 ounce cans black beans, rinsed
· 4 cups of chopped nectarines (about 5 medium nectarines)
· 1/2 cup chopped green onions
· 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
· 4 tablespoons of fresh lime juice
· 4 tablespoons of 100% orange juice
· 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro
· 1 teaspoon of chili powder
· 1/2 teaspoon of cumin powder

Directions:
1. Mix all the ingredients in a big bowl.
2. The salad can be serve immediately, or put in the refrigerator for an hour, to enhance the flavor

Chef Bio:
Marta Crespo-Rosado was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She earned a B.A. degree in Social Work at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. She currently lives with my husband Angel and we are proud parents of Francisco Arturo and Martamaria. She also has tree amazing granddaughters; Angel, Leila and Shiloh. Marta has worked with non-profit and education organizations for the last 37 years in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties. Marta is very passionate about reaching out to the community to provide support to families and children. Marta teaches nutrition Classes at Monterey County WIC; and worked as an instructor for the American Heart Association “Cocina con Corazón” and “Together Against Heart Diseases” nutrition programs. I am currently the Parent Project Coordinator for Partners for Peace.
