Bi-lingual Support Groups for Type I and
Type II Diabetes, as well as special groups for teens and family
members, will be offered to the community beginning January 4, 2006
at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas with Diabetes Educator, Chesney
Hoagland-Fuchs, BSN, RN, CDE. The support groups will be ongoing
from this date and the schedule of days and times is listed below.
Chesney is a graduate of Georgetown University
School of Nursing, and has been a certified diabetes educator for
almost 10 years. She has worked with patients of diverse backgrounds,
and has made presentations to many professional organizations including
the American Association of Diabetes Educators’ at the 2004
annual meeting.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that
more than 18 million people in the US have diabetes and at least
half of them don’t know they have it. The Latino population
has a much higher incidence of diabetes. The interactive group meetings
at Natividad will encourage diabetics to share experiences and learn
how to manage their diabetes. For further information, Chesney can
