Foundation and Hollywood Video officials
will visit unit on June 8th
SALINAS, CA–
On June 8 at 1 p.m., Natividad Medical Center will unveil a new
state-of-the-art Fun Center, donated to the Natividad Pediatrics
Unit by Hollywood Video in partnership with the Starlight Starbright
Children’s Foundation.
The Fun Center is a mobile, multimedia entertainment unit containing
a Sharp® AQUOS™ Liquid Crystal television, Nintendo Game
Cube™ system and a DVD player. Fun Centers have become a focal
point of Starlight Starbright’s efforts to combat the isolation
and depression experienced by sick children. Caregivers report that
Fun Centers divert children during treatment sessions, are a great
distraction from hospital stress and are a bright spot in the long
hours of a pediatric patient’s day.
Hollywood Video and Game Crazy are proud
partners of the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, bringing
the power of entertainment to those who need it most -- seriously
ill children and their families.
The Fun Center will be dedicated with the
assistance of pediatric patients, eight local Hollywood Video executives,
representatives from Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation,
and pediatric staff at Natividad.
“Merging technology and healthcare
for the benefit of these patients in a fun and educational manner
is wonderful!” says Barbara Messer, Natividad Assistant Administrator
of Patient Services. “We are very grateful to Starlight Starbright
Foundation and Hollywood Video for this opportunity to have one
on our pediatrics unit.”
To date, more than 4,000 Fun Centers have
been sponsored by companies, foundations and individuals and are
being enjoyed at hospitals across North America.
Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation
is a non-profit organization that transforms the lives of seriously
ill children and their families through imaginative programs that
educate, uplift their spirits, foster a sense of community, and
help alleviate the pain and fear of prolonged illness. Starlight
Starbright offers an impressive array of in-hospital, outpatient,
school and home-based programs and services that touch the lives
of more than 180,000 children and families each month. To learn
more about the organization, visit www.starlight.org.
With a minimum commitment of $1 million,
Hollywood Video is brightening the lives of seriously ill children
