Family members are considered an important part of the team and are encouraged to participate in ongoing family education.

Note: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Natividad is taking precautions to prevent the spread of the disease. This includes a modified visitor policy. Details can be found on our website or by calling (831) 755-5570. Our staff can connect patients with families through video meetings. A hospital-issued smart device can be used if a patient does not have one. Staff facilitates family education one to two days prior to patient discharge. This will take place on-site or through a video meeting.

Dr. Anthony Galicia, MD

Diplomate, American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Since 2003, Dr. Galicia has served as Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Unit at Natividad. Each morning, Dr. Galicia leads our interdisciplinary team of Therapists, Nurses, Social Worker and Admission Coordinators in daily rounds for all current and pending patients. As Medical Director, he plays a key role in assuring that patient care meets Medicare standards and setting the tone of excellence for the unit. His daily rounds ensure that every team member is up to speed on the status of each patient and that our care, as a team, is constantly moving forward toward optimal rehabilitation. When asked about his passion for rehab, Dr. Galicia explains, “My goal is to have patients fulfill their potential and live out their lives at the highest possible level of independence and satisfaction.”

Stanford residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Natividad Chairman for Bioethics and Physician Well-Being Committees; member of Service Director Committee, Medicine Service Improvement Committee, and Quality Review Committee.

Recipient of Faculty Teaching Award from the University of California, San Francisco Family Practice Residency Program at Natividad (2002-2003, 2009-2010).

Devoted husband and father of two girls.

Resident of the Salinas community for 20 years.

Internationally Accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International (CARF). Natividad is the only hospital in the area that is CARF-Accredited for Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs Hospital: Stroke Specialty Programs (Adults).

Top 10% of Rehabilitation Facilities by Uniform Data System (UDS). The ranking certifies that Natividad provides care that is effective, efficient, timely and patient-centered. Natividad ranked second in the nation out of approximately 900 rehab units for Overall Quality and Outcomes for Acute Rehabilitation Units by UDS.

Ranked 1st in Quality and Outcomes by Kindred Healthcare’s Acute Rehabilitation Centers evaluation. 88% of our patients transition back home following treatment.
