Natividad is currently accepting applications for Pharmacists in our Pharmacy Department. This incumbent performs professional pharmaceutical work in compounding and dispensing prescriptions and drugs; maintain pharmacy records and documents; and perform related work as required.

Specific Skills
- Federal, Board of Pharmacy, and DHS laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to patient care, and dispensing of legend and non-legend pharmaceuticals and poisons
- Prescription and non-prescription drugs and drug products and their indications, efficacy, dosage, mechanisms of action; fate and disposition (if known), major contraindications and potential side effects
- Influence of patient's age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition
- Physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice
- Major reference sources to answer drug information/ingestion questions Pharmaceutical manufacturing methods
- Legislation governing pharmacy practice and hospital pharmacy services/hospital operations as they relate to pharmacy services.
- Professional standards and practice
- Good customer (Physicians, nurses, and patients) service
- Communicate clearly and effectively
- Work cooperatively with other staff and health care providers
- Organize, and manage routine and new responsibilities
- Provide quality pharmaceutical care
- Properly supervise and direct the work of supportive pharmacy personnel

- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and provide functional direction to paraprofessional personnel
- Effectively counsel patients regarding use, possible side effects and storage of medications
- Effectively advise and consult with medical, nursing and other personnel regarding properties of drug substances
- Use and evaluate information in appropriate reference sources and clinical literature
Responsible For
- Assesses appropriateness of, and completeness of prescriptions and medication orders
- Dispense pharmaceuticals in the Outpatient and/or Inpatient setting accurately and correctly according to BOP requirements. Provides answers to distributive questions
- Provides medication consultation to other health care providers and patients
- Checks in/out controlled substances correctly, and maintains an accurate paper trail
- Work with nurses, physicians, and other health care providers to ensure optimal patient care
- Reviews medication utilization of patients and monitors drug therapy when prescribed
- Reviews and checks orders from clinics and other outside entities
- Participates in training programs for other health care providers
- Assists in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures
- Participates and maintains quality assurance records; participates in performance improvement activities, as required
- Participates on departmental and medical center committees
- Initiates, adjusts and discontinues medication per protocol
- Performs antimicrobial stewardship activities to ensure proper use of antimicrobials
Additional Requirements
- Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment.
- Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
- Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid Driver License for the class vehicle driven or have the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
- Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid Driver License or State ID prior to the first day of work (Social Security Card is required for payroll purposes only).
- Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including irregular hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Incumbents may be required to work with potentially hazardous and infectious substances.
