Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator (Clinic Nurse Practitioner)
Overview
Natividad is currently seeking to fill one (1) permanent full-time Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator (Clinic Nurse Practitioner) in the Bates Eldredge Child Advocacy Center. The Clinic Nurse Practitioner provides primary health care services such as conducting complete physical examinations, diagnosing and managing the care of pediatric and adolescent suspected victims of child sexual abuse; physical abuse and/or neglect.
Specific Skills
- Provide health care services, which include taking a complete medical history and performing a physical examination, and other related clinical procedures specific to the gathering of evidence, diagnosis and treatment of child sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect.
- Identify and manage health problems common to pediatric forensics.
- Use common medical instruments in addition to the use of the colposcopy for the examination and gathering of photographic evidence.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for patients according to prescribed policies, protocols, and scope of licensure per pediatric and adolescent forensic guidelines.
- Analyze, interpret, evaluate and apply appropriate procedures and protocols and determine situations requiring consultation or referral of case to a physician.
- Recognize social problems, which effect health and assist in securing adjustments.
- Write in order to prepare and maintain accurate medical records, medical reports, and case histories, to order laboratory procedures, etc.
- Communicate orally for the purpose of gathering information, explaining procedures or a variety of other matters to individuals with varying degrees of knowledge.
- Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Work effectively under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with patients and health care personnel including the multidisciplinary team of the Natividad -Child Abuse Center; provide culturally competent, family centered care
Responsible For
- Assesses the health of pediatric and adolescent suspected victims of child sexual abuse, physical abuse and/or neglect to determine their physical, emotional and social status by taking a complete medical history, doing a forensic physical examination, initiating screening and diagnostic procedures etc.; evaluates results of clinical findings and laboratory tests; reports any abnormalities to a physician.
- Identifies and manages in collaboration with a physician, common illnesses and/or other health problems related to sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect and other pediatric problems or illnesses that require immediate medical attention to the appropriate practicing physician; assumes on-going responsibility for follow-ups.
- Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals regarding health problems and illnesses following established protocol relative to diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents
- Counsels parents or other family members regarding child physical and sexual abuse and maltreatment
- Coordinates and facilitates referrals to other health or social agencies.
- Maintains accurate records of assessments, follow-ups and evaluations.
- May supervise the work of subordinate health workers and participate in professional and administrative meetings, training and outreach.
- Works in conjunction with Natividad Child Abuse Center multidisciplinary team, law enforcement, social services, behavioral health, victim's assistance, rape crisis team and the district attorney's office.
- Coordinates Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) meetings with Child Abuse Center Team
- Participates in Quarterly Child Abuse Prevention Council Meetings
- Participates in District Attorney-Case Review
- Participate in "peer review" with Child Abuse Center Medical Director
- Maintain clinical data in accordance with the National Children's Alliance

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment.
- Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
- Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven.
- Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid CA Driver License or CA State ID prior to the first day of work.
- Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Educational Requirements
Experience:
- Employment as an advanced practitioner (PA, NP) for at least one (1) year.
- Two years of recent SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) experience
- Experience working in a Child Advocacy Center
- Familiarity with NCA standards for accreditation for the multidisciplinary team and case review
- For children (less than 13 years of age) - Successful CCFMTC Pediatric Sexual Abuse Forensic Examiner didactic training, or a comparable training program, or the ability to obtain this certification within six (6) months of employment. A time extension may be granted beyond the six (6) month time period if one of the courses is unavailable within the first six (6) months of employment.
- License: Completion of an accredited nursing program with a valid California Registered Nurse License. AND Pursuant to the Business and Professions Code, Section 2838, possession of valid certification as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the BRN of the State of California is required in one of the following specialized areas:
- Women's Health Nurse Practitioner
- Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
- Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
- Emergency Nurse Practitioner
