The current appointed trustees are:
Liz Lorenzi, MHA, Senior Vice President/Physician and
Business Development, Salinas Valley Memorial
Healthcare System
Elizabeth Lorenzi, MHA brings more than 19 years of experience in the
healthcare industry to her role as Senior Vice President/Physician and
Business Development for Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. Joining
Salinas Valley Memorial in July 1999, Ms. Lorenzi is a member of the
Executive Management Team, and in her role as Senior Vice President she
helps direct physician and business development activities and financial
applications reporting. She also oversees the Marketing and Public Relations
Department for the Healthcare System.
Ms. Lorenzi has a strong background in leadership with a focus on strategic
planning, market share expansion, service integration, network development,
physician and board relations and legislative advocacy. Active in community
healthcare collaborations, she served on the Insurance Task Force for the
Community Health Plan.
Ms. Lorenzi earned her Masters in Health Administration from the University
of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1988, and she is a 1977 graduate of
California State University, Fresno. Ms. Lorenzi is a member of the
Healthcare Financial Management Association.
David Perrott, DDS, MD MBA, FACS, Senior Vice
President/Medical Director for the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System
David H. Perrott, DDS, MD, MBA, FACS is Senior Vice President/Medical Director for the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System in Salinas/Monterey California, a Joint Commission Hospital Surveyor and maintains a private practice in Salinas. He is a former Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco and Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Unit Chief and Residency Program Director at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Perrott has published extensively, served on numerous professional association committees and is the Associate Editor for the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He presently serves on several California Healthcare Association and California Healthcare Foundation Committees and was recently appointed to the Board of the Directors of the newly formed California Hospital and Patient Safety Organization.
Dr. Perrott is a graduate of Creighton University School of Dentistry and Creighton University School of Medicine and the University of California, Irvine, Paul Merage School of Business Management and did post-graduate training at Emory University, The University of Tennessee School of Medicine/Knoxville and Northwestern University.
Jesus “Jesse” Armenta
Mr. Armenta is Dir. of Fund Development for Sun Street Centers, former owner
Retail Facilities Manager, Mercadito Internacional, Inc., former
Redevelopment Project Manager, City of Salinas & former Administrative
Assistant to the Presiding Judge County of Monterey Municipal Court Judicial
District .
Lew Bauman, PhD., CAO of Monterey County
Oversees the preparation, adoption, and administration of the county budget
of approximately $720 million and coordinates the activities of other County
departments. Prior to his appointment as CAO, Dr.. Bauman was Director of
the Monterey County Public Works Department. His professional background
includes environmental & engineering consultant with San Jose and Foster
City.
Laura Zehm, MBA, FHFMA
Ms. Zehm is vice president and chief financial officer of Community Hospital
of the Monterey Peninsula. She joined the hospital in 1982 and has more than
20 years of healthcare and financial experience. For Community Hospital of
the Monterey Peninsula, she has served as reimbursement coordinator and
director of financial services prior to her promotion to vice president and
chief financial officer in 1996.
Prior healthcare experience included chief accountant at Copley Memorial
Hospital, Aurora, IL and auditor, Blue Cross of Chicago.
Laura is a member of Financial Executives International and American College
of Healthcare Executives. She is a fellow in the Healthcare Financial
Management Association. She has served on the Northern California board of
directors of HFMA from 1998 to 2001 as a director and from 2001 to 2004 in
board officer positions to include president of the chapter for the
2003–2004 year. Laura has served as co-chair and chair of the Central Coast
Council from 1994 to 1997, and as a member of the ProAction Committee from
1994 to 1997. As a member of the Northern California Chapter she has earned
a number of awards, most recently the Muncie Gold Merit award in 2004, and
the chapter’s highest honor, the Presidential award in 2005.
Laura earned her B.S. from Western Illinois University and her MBA. from
Golden Gate University.
Dave Potter, District 5 Supervisor for Monterey County
(Fill-in for Jerry Smith who is out on medical leave)
Dave Potter has been a resident of Monterey
County since 1970, and is dedicated to actively serving the community.
Besides owning and operating Potter Construction since 1974, Dave has also
served the local and state community in many capacities. He was first
elected to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors for the Fifth District,
representing Big Sur, Carmel, Carmel Valley, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble
Beach and Salinas in November of 1996, then re-elected to a second term in
2000 and a third term in 2004. He was elected Chairperson for the Board of
Supervisors in 1998 and 2002, and served as Vice-Chairperson in 1997 and
2001. In March of 1997, he was appointed to the California Coastal
Commission, was reappointed in 2000 and 2002, and served as Vice-Chairperson
from March 1999 until December 2002.
In addition to serving as Supervisor to the constituents
of the Fifth District of the County of Monterey, Dave also serves on
numerous Board of Supervisor committees including the Board of
Supervisors’ Legislative Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Equal
Opportunity Commission, the Law Library Board of Trustees, the California
Oak Mortality Task Force, Cultural Council for Monterey County and the
Monterey County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Dave serves as an alternate
for Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District, and the California
State Association of Counties Board of Directors.
Kurt P. Sligar, MD, MHA, FAAN
Dr. Kurt Sligar is an executive with more than 20 years of
leadership positions in a variety of healthcare organizations. He brings
management experience in care management, clinical program development,
operations, strategic planning, acquisitions, restructuring, and business
startup. He is a nationally recognized healthcare consultant and has
developed healthcare informatics and biotech startups.
In March, 2005, Dr. Sligar accepted the role of president and chief medical
officer for Community Healthcare Corporation, Monterey, CA, a non-profit
corporation that manages a Preferred Provider Network and Care Management
Services serving the Central Coast of California.
Dr. Sligar also serves as president and chief executive officer of AdapCS,
Inc. based in Marina, California, a privately held healthcare technology
company and was a senior associate with Navigant Consulting, Inc.(NYSE:
NCI), a specialized independent consulting firm. He served as senior vice
president and chief medical officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Massachusetts. BCBSMA is New England’s largest health insurer with more than
2.3 million members.
Dr. Sligar is a graduate of Whitman College and obtained his M.D. cum laude
from the University of Maryland. He completed his neurology residency at
Cornell New York Hospital where he served as chief resident. He then
completed a fellowship in neurochemistry at the University of California
Medical Center, San Francisco. He also obtained an MHA from the University
of Southern California, Los Angeles. He was associate clinical professor of
neurology at University of California at Davis School of Medicine and
lecturer and chairperson of Advisory Board, University of Southern
California, graduate program in health sciences. He is a fellow of the
American Academy of Neurology.
Lou Solton, Treasurer-Tax Collector of Monterey County,
MPA
Mr. Solton has been elected to five uncontested terms since his
appointment in 1985. Lou received his B.A. and M.P.A. degrees from Cal
State, Sacramento, and he is a Certified Government Financial Manager.He has
taught numerous graduate courses in public finance at Golden Gate University
and at USC.
W. Allan Bidwell, LLB
Mr. Bidwell has been a
member of the Monterey County Counsel's Office since August 1981. He has
been the legal counsel for Natividad Medical Center, 1981-present; and for
Natividad Medical Foundation since 1989. Prior to his arrival in Monterey
County, Mr. Bidwell was a member of the Los Angeles County Counsel's
Office. In 1978‑79, he was assigned to serve as outside expert legal
advisor to the California Law Revision Commission during its major revision
of Probate Code Guardianship‑Conservatorship law. He was a member of the
Board of Supervisors' Los Angeles Citizens Committee on Life Support
Policies, 1979‑81. As a member of the L.A. County Bar Association, Mr.
Bidwell was a member of the Bioethics Committee, 1979 -1981, and a member of
the Los Angeles County Bar Association ‑ Los Angeles County Medical
Association's Joint Ad‑Hoc Committee on Biomedical Ethics, 1980. He is the
author of "Medical Treatment of Conservatees Under the Probate Code" (C.E.B.,
Berkeley, CA, 1985), and has been a lecturer for the Continuing Education of
the Bar. Mr. Bidwell did his undergraduate work at Purdue University, and
spent three years in graduate school at U.C. Berkeley before attending Boalt
Hall School of Law. He began his career in New York City with the firm that
is now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP, before deciding to return to
California.
Mark Tunzi, MD
After graduating from Santa Clara University in 1980 and the University of
California, San Diego, School of Medicine in 1984, Dr. Tunzi completed a
Family Medicine Residency at the UCSF-Fresno program in 1987. He was the
Program Director for the Family Practice Residency Program at Natividad
Medical Center from 2000 to 2005, and currently remains on staff there.
Leonard V. Breschini, Vice President, Program Director,
Cypress Risk Management Services, LLC (Out on leave)
Leonard Breschini has more than 42 years experience in the healthcare and
insurance industries. Since 2000, he has been Vice President and Program
Director for Cypress Risk Management Services, LLC. He was with the
Association of California Healthcare Districts, ALPHA Fund from 1994 to
2000; Pulford-Breschini Insurance Agency from 1992 to 1994; Breschini
Insurance Agency from 1966 to 1992; and was in production control at Kaiser
Refractories from 1964 to 1966.
Mr. Breschini, a graduate of Salinas High School and Stanford University,
earned a Bachelor of Foreign Trade from the American Graduate School of
International Management in 1964.
He served on the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System Board of
Directors from 1982 to 2000, including four years as Board President. During
his Board service, Mr. Breschini participated in efforts to form the
organization’s partnership with NASA, acquisition and growth of Doctors on
Duty, establishment of a joint venture for the Mammography Center, as well
as other advancements and expansions.
Mr. Breschini also served on the Board of Governors for Salinas Valley
Memorial Hospital Foundation, and is a past member of the Association of
California Healthcare Districts Board of Directors and the Association of
California Healthcare Districts Trustee Action Network. He has been a member
of the Salinas Elks Lodge since 1965.
