Your Visit

Natividad has resources available to make your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible. From our staff to our volunteers to our spiritual care services, you will always find support and care within our walls.

Your Health Care Team

Your health care team will vary depending on the care you are receiving. Our staff includes hundreds of passionate, talented professionals who work together toward the best possible outcomes for every patient. Your team includes physicians, nurses, therapists, technicians, dieticians, aides, and more. We believe that the patient and their family are also an important part of the health care team.

A physician, or doctor, is responsible for directing your care while you are in the hospital. A physician will direct all the tests, medications, and coordinate any special procedures with other physicians.

The nursing staff will manage your care to fit your individual needs. Nurses are your advocates for a safe and therapeutic hospital stay. They will coordinate all activities in a manner that supports healing.

Spiritual Care

Natividad offers non-denominational spiritual care at no cost to patients and families. If you would like a visit from a chaplain to address your spiritual concerns, please ask your nurse for assistance.

Providing a Safe Environment

We know that being hospitalized can be a stressful experience for yourself and your loved ones. Our goal is to make your stay with us as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Your safety is also a top priority. Following these simple guidelines can help us give you the best experience possible.

  • Tell your doctor if you have allergies or sensitivities to food, medications, or latex products
  • Wear your hospital identification band at all times
  • Push the nurse call button if you need help
  • Listen to your doctor’s rules to prevent the spread of infections
  • Ask questions if you are unclear about anything
  • If you have any concerns, tell your nurse


If you are having surgery, there are specific things you can expect during your visit.

Before Your Surgery

  • Confirm that the surgery site is marked correctly by your doctor
  • Ask a family member or friend to watch to confirm
  • Expect the Operating Room staff to do a final verification
  • Inform the nurse of who will be caring for you after surgery

After Your Surgery

  • If you are in pain, call your nurse
  • Don’t get out of bed without help
  • Ask family/friends to wash their hands before and after visiting you

Patient Rooms

We take pride in our facilities, and we make sure our patient rooms are as comfortable as possible. It is important that your healing takes place in a nurturing environment. Natividad offers private rooms with a single bed and semi-private rooms, which have two beds. Rooms are assigned depending on what is available and each patient’s medical needs. Each patient room has a wall-mounted television with major network channels at no extra charge. Newspapers are delivered with breakfast trays.

Telephone Calls

Telephones are located at each bedside. In the ICU, all calls are screened by a nurse before being connected to the patient, to ensure the patient is able to take the call. Patients may make local phone calls free of charge. Please contact the hospital operator by dialing 0 on your phone for assistance with long distance calls. Family and friends may call (831) 755-4111 and provide the operator with the patient’s name and room number to be transferred to a patient room. The caller will also have to provide an access code if the patient has chosen one for privacy reasons. Calls are permitted between 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week. Quiet Time is 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. If a family member calls during Quiet Time, they will be connected to the nurses station in order speak to their loved one.

Room Safety

Your safety is an important priority. Following some simple instructions for preventing falls while staying at the hospital can help ensure your safety.

  • Follow your doctors’ and nurses’ directions
  • If you need help, press the call button. Be patient and remain lying down or seated while waiting for assistance
  • Use grab bars while getting in and out of the shower or tub
  • Wait for your nurse to help you if you feel weak or dizzy
  • Wear non-skid slipper socks when walking
  • Do not move the side rails on your bed
  • Walk slowly
  • Do not use furniture to assist you


When you come to the hospital, bring a list of all medications you take. This list should also include dosage amounts, and any vitamins or supplements you take. Ask questions. Talk to your nurse or doctor about medications you can take.

  • Give the list to your nurse
  • At the hospital, do not take medications brought from home
  • Your doctor will tell you what to take, and medication will be given to you during your stay
  • Only take medication the nurse gives you

Patient Privacy

Natividad adheres to Federal HIPAA privacy regulations to ensure the privacy of our client’s health information. We have established safeguards to protect the confidentiality of medical information.

When you are admitted to the hospital, you will be given the opportunity to tell us whether or not you want Natividad to acknowledge that you are or are not under our medical care.

If you say “yes” you will be able to receive phone calls in your room from family and/or friends. A “yes” response also means that visitors and gift deliveries will be directed to the department you are residing.

If you say “no” and prefer to have your inpatient stay private, we will not give out information to visitors or callers. Gift deliveries will be declined and directed back to the sender.

If you want only a select few people to have the ability to visit you, call you, or send you gift deliveries, you can arrange this by setting up a code.

We understand that your friends and family will want to know how you are doing. We recommend choosing a family member who can keep all your loved ones informed.

Patient Experience

We are committed to quality care and our goal is for you to have a great experience while you are here at Natividad. We want to make sure your requests or preferences are addressed during your stay.  If you or a family member have a question or concern, we ask that you speak to your nurse, department manager or doctor first.  If you need further assistance  please call or text (831) 262-1135*. Ethical Questions & Concerns

If you have questions or concerns about treatment choices or other issues that affect decision-making about a patient’s care, the hospital’s Bioethics Committee is available to consult with patients, their loved ones, and the health care team. If you would like to request consultation by the Bioethics Committee, please contact your physician, nurse, case manager, chaplain, or any member of your care team. All consultations are advisory in nature.
