Natividad Medical Center Certified Famers Market Announces a Featured Farmer Cooking Demonstration by Jcg Farms on Wednesday, June 23rd

SALINAS, CA – June 4th, 2010 — Harry Weis, CEO of Natividad Medical Center, announced today that Natividad Medical Center’s Certified Farmers’ Market, run by nonprofit organization Everyone’s Harvest, will have a featured farmer cooking demonstration by JCG Farm owners, Jose and Bertenice Garcia. The cooking demo will be held Wednesday, June 23rd at 12:00 p.m. (The Farmers Market is from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

In honor of National Fruits and Vegetables month, the Garcia’s will be demonstrating how to make Nopales Con Carne.

Following is Bertenice’s famous recipe:

Nopales con Carne

  1. Cut pre-cleaned (no thorns) nopales in long strips
  2. Cut thin steak into strips
  3. Sauté nopales, onions, and steak together
  4. As desired add chile sauce and salt
  5. Cook on medium heat covered for 20 minutes
  6. Enjoy!!!

The Farmers Market is located at 1441 Constitution Blvd., outside of building 200-Out Patient Services, and is open to the public every Wednesday through October 27th. The Certified Farmers Market is part of Natividad Medical Center’s ongoing commitment to promote wellness and healthy eating among Natividad Medical Center’s staff, patients and their families.

  • September 29th the featured cooking demonstration will promote Women’s Fitness Day and healthy eating.
  • October 13th the featured cooking demonstration will promote Cancer Awareness and foods that prevent cancer.
