Salary and Benefits

Annual Salary: Annual salary is competitive within our region, negotiated by our Resident Union, SEIU Local 521. For Academic Year 2025-2026:

  • PGY-1 Base rate: $ 81,684 (plus $7000 relocation stipend)
  • PGY-2 Base rate: $ 85,812
  • PGY-3 Base rate: $ 91,596

Relocation Assistance: $7000 stipend, paid in first pay period in August of year one.

Educational stipend: $2250 annually

Bilingual pay: $1404 (must pass Spanish proficiency test)

Cell phone stipend: $1080 per year

Meals:   Free meals in Hospital Cafeteria (up to $430 per month), prepared meals and snacks available 24/7 in Resident Lounge

Mileage reimbursement: for educational activities or rotations off campus

Health Insurance: Natividad offers low-cost health insurance plans for residents to choose from.  CalPERS Gold Family plan will be covered in full.

Dental Insurance: Included with Insurance for residents.

Vision Insurance: Included with Insurance for residents.

Life Insurance: $20,000 Group term life insurance for residents.

Short term disability insurance: Residents are covered by the State Disability Income (SDI) protection plan, and can also use accrued PTO for short term disability income.

Long term disability Insurance: Available through payroll deduction.

Liability Insurance: Professional liability insurance is provided by Monterey County to cover residents performing duties within the course and scope of their appointments.

Vacation & Holiday Leave: Full-time residents receive 15 days of vacation and up to 5 sick days per year (in accordance with ACGME limits on time away from residency) and paid holidays. Residents accrue 32 days of PTO per year, and unused days can be paid out annually or at graduation.

Overtime pay for holiday shifts and coverage: 1 ½ times base pay rate for Natividad holidays and jeopardy shifts

Education Leave: PGY1 have 3 days, and PGY2 and PGY3 have 5 days of Educational leave each year to be used for conferences, education use, and for job interviews in year 3.
